Mealybugs

Mealybugs are small sap-feeding insects covered in a white, waxy material.

They are relatively easy to recognise because they often resemble tiny pieces of cotton wool.

Signs of Mealybugs

Look for white cotton-like clusters, sticky honeydew, yellowing leaves, weak growth, or sooty mould.

They commonly hide around leaf joints, branches, and other protected areas.

What to Do

Isolate the affected bonsai.

Small infestations can often be removed manually.

Larger infestations may require an appropriate insecticidal treatment.

Continue inspecting the tree because hidden insects or eggs can cause the infestation to return.
